M340

Dual-Spindle Coiling Machine Suitable for Both Online and Offline

Key Features

fast

For maximum output, the M340 can be set up for online (or “inline”) packaging at the end of an extrusion line. In this configuration, the M340 is paired with an accumulator which stores the incoming product during transfer between spindles.

The M340 is ideally suited for operations in which length marks are sequentially printed at the REELEX machine. The M340 can receive signals from any industry standard printer, see a signal via UV mark, or simply cut and transfer at a chosen coil length.

With a transfer time of less than 10 seconds, the M340 can operate at high speed nearly continuously. This means the M340 can often outrun the operator’s ability to remove and package the completed coils – leading many manufacturers to have multiple operators per machine.

Performance

In unison with a REELEX-built motorized payoff and buffer/dancer, a M340 line will run up to 1500 feet (122m) per minute. At this rate, the M340 will produce up to 80 packages (1,000 ft (305m) length) in an hour, depending on operator skill.

M340 Overview

The M340 is REELEX’s next-generation dual-spindle coiling machine featuring a variety of new and upgraded components and state-of-the art industrial design.

Equipped with automatic cut-and-transfer between spindles, the M340 can run continuously up to 1,500 fpm (450mpm).

Maintenance and reliability is improved, resulting from the revision of key parts, including a new lubrication-free traverse, industry-standard AC drives, and quick access panels.

Automated safety is standard, and is designed to allow the operator in and out of the machine quickly and efficiently.

Cut and transfer between mandrels occurs in less than 7 seconds, enabling nearly continuous operation.

Quick-change mandrel sizes range from 4-inches (10cm) to 10-inches (25.5cm) diameter. Typical machines are equipped with a standard 8-inch (20.3cm) diameter set.

The propietary PCB-based G4 control system is mounted inside a cabinet mounted flush with the frame and offers greater reliance on common, readily-available parts.

High-performance buffer is suitable for high-performance and sensitive products such as Category 6, Cat 6A, and fiber optic cables.

High-definition G4 HMI touchscreen control system features recipe functions, connectivity options, live maintenance, diagnostics, and industry 4.0 features.

Stretch wrap modules may be equipped, which automatically wrap completed coils with plastic stretch film.

New Features

New Winding Algorithm*

Ushering in a new era in REELEX is an advanced new method for coil creation.

Calculations on the Fly

The new winding program automatically calculates coil parameters as the coil builds. Eliminates hole slant adjustment and accurately calculates coil diameter in real time with no inputs beyond the rotation of the spindle and the length counter.

(Even More) Precise

Distance between layers in coil and payout hole formation is precisely managed throughout the coil. This provides consistent crossover spacing with no radical changes from layer to layer.

Smaller Coils, More Adjustability

Reduce package sizes and box variations via improved spacing and automatic payout hole management.

Coil density is now managed automatically, and hole size is based on actual coil diameter so that changes in tension are compensated for.

* Coming soon as a no-cost software upgrade

Simple Operation

The new G4 high-definition 21-inch touchscreen blends off-the-shelf hardware with unique custom software allowing the integration of equipment control with troubleshooting, on-screen switch and valve status, packaging calculator, multi-language support, recipe-based product selection, networking capability, and much more.

New Traverse Design

A newly designed traverse eliminates the messy oiler system and instead uses self lubricating composite (metal-polymer) bearings for a long maintenance-free life.

Easy Servicing

The REELEX Winding Module used in G3 and G4 controls is now paired with more readily available components ensuring minimal downtime and minimizing supply disruption risks.

Spindle motors are AC and use industry-standard drives. Controls are easy to work on and troubleshoot, with most information accessible via HMI.

Precision Layering

New adjustable wire guide offers superior coiling precision, less wear, and has the added benefit of improved twisted-pair cable performance test results.

Included Length Counter

A light-contact wheeled length counter is standard on all REELEX equipment. This 10-pulse per rotation wheel encoder is mounted to a spring-loaded arm offering consistent yet gentle contact with the cable.

M340 Standard Features

High-Performance Buffer

The key to creating precise REELEX coils is controlling the tension as the product is wound. Every REELEX machine includes a specially designed extremely lightweight ring-sheave buffer system to maintain even tension and create a precise wind.

All machines come standard with 15″ sheaves for high performance products such as Category 6, 6A and Fiber Optics.

Two-Stage Tension Control

When used in combination with the G4 control system, REELEX’s UDA dancers feature HMI-programmable tension control via digital air regulator and high-flow cylinder. This means each product can have their ideal tension control map, helping to mitigate the effects of physical pressure placed on the cable at the crossover point. What does that mean? That means high performance data cables stay high performance, with less physical deformities.

Additional Options

Stretch Wrap Module

Most REELEX machines can be ordered with an automated stretch wrap module which blows plastic stretch wrap film, adds tension, and automatically cuts the film. This produces a finished coil that is fully wrapped and is easily handled.

The stretch wrap module is particularly useful for securing stiff, springy or flimsy products that easily can lose coil integrity during handling. Stretch wrap is also useful for securing coils so that they may be packaged at a later stage, or simply to create an extremely low-cost package.

Multiple Mandrel Sizes

As the inside diameter of the REELEX coil is determined by the mandrel size, the size and characteristics of a product need to be matched to the correct mandrel and endforms so that payout performance is ideal.

Larger, stiffer products are typically wound on a 10-inch (25.4cm) mandrel, while smaller products use either 4-inch (10.1cm) or 6-inch (15.2cm) mandrel sets. Typical mandrel sizes come in 2-inch increments, from 4-inches to 10-inches diameter. 8-inch (20.3cm) mandrels are standard on all REELEX equipment.

Safety is Priority #1

Enhanced Security Devices

All REELEX machines feature dual-channel safety devices to control hazardous energy sources and prevent unexpected startup

Designed to the Latest Standards

All machines are designed from the ground-up using ISO best practices and conform to CE and UL requirements. This includes the use of safety cages and automated safety doors when possible.

Safe Electrical
Design

All electrical components adhere to modern safety standards. Use of AC motors and drives and 24v controls reduce safety risk.

Physical Safety Protection

Physical safety guards are integral to the machine design, and remove the operator from any risk areas during operation.
